Skin Rejuvenation Series: Addressing The Signs Of Ageing

The signs of ageing. It’s the one thing almost all of our clients say they would like to address– no matter what age they are! But how exactly can we achieve this for them?

Our Clinical and Training Manager Lashana shares 4 forward-thinking treatments that deliver exceptional rejuvenation results.

1. Radio Frequency Skin Tightening

Radio Frequency has been around for over 75 years, however, what does RF actually do? RF uses an oscillating electrical current to create heat and kinetic energy deep in the dermis. When performed at optimal temperatures, this heat causes micro-inflammation, causing collagen helix’s to immediately tighten, as well as long term collagen and elastin production. Fibroblasts also stimulate our GAGs, aiding in hydration, while heat also encourages blood flow, offering an abundance of oxygen and nutrient supply to the skin.

This powerful combination of tightening and hydration see’s the skin looking firmer, smoother and hydrated, all whilst lines, wrinkles and jowls are ironed out.

The best part about Radio Frequency? It’s immediate, painless and has no downtime, making it an amazing treatment for those looking for something effective but non-invasive. It can also be used anywhere on the face and body to tighten lax skin, meaning tightening to the neck, arms and stomach can also be achieved.

2. LED Light Therapy

Light Emitting Diode Therapy was originally developed by NASA to aid astronauts with muscle and skeletal atrophy after space. During these studies, they concluded that both Red (633nm) and NIR (830nm) light had an incredible effect on skin degradation, DNA replication and quintupled fibroblast production. Yes, you read that right; Quintupled.

Studies also concluded that LED provided amazing acceleration of wound healing & human tissue growth, as well as stimulated basic energy processes in cells. What an amazing all-rounder!

As we age, ATP or cellular energy decreases, with an estimate of a 50% decrease by age 60. By stimulating cellular energy, we encourage our cells to work harder, be more receptive, communicate better, and behave and repair as a younger skin would. Talk about trickery!

NIR light works from 5 to 10mm deep into the skin (Muscular and Skeletal level), making it a perfect treatment for those who have lost muscle tone as part of the ageing process. Red light works in the dermis, stimulating a mass amount of fibroblasts and promotes wound healing & repair, making this the ideal treatment for diminishing fine lines & wrinkles.

LED light therapy machines are 100% non-invasive with absolutely no downtime and are suitable for almost everybody. Treatments are recommended twice a week, for a minimum of 8 treatments in a course. It can be used by itself or in conjunction with other anti-ageing treatment.

3. Dynamic Muscle Activation (DMA)

DMA stands for Dynamic Muscle Activation. DMA works by stimulating muscle contractions to tighten and strengthen the face’s SMAS muscles.
This muscular system is the same system that is manipulated during facial cosmetic surgery, especially rhytidectomy (facelift).

As we begin to age, there is a loss of elasticity in the epidermis and well as the SMAS membrane, causing cheek volume to drop down and result in sagging cheeks along the jaw. This is what is responsible for jowling, double chin and increased appearance and depth of the nasolabial folds. Strengthening and tightening muscles have a direct and long-term effect for non-invasive face-lifting.

Treatment can be performed once a week, and is amazing in combination with Radio Frequency Skin Tightening to provide an incredible dermal and muscular tightening treatment!

4. Skin Needling

Skin needling, or Collagen Induction Therapy, does exactly as the name suggests. It works by creating micro-punctures in the dermal layer of the skin to stimulate our bodies natural wound healing response.

Inducing this micro-wound creates a cascade of responses to stimulate the skin’s regenerative mechanisms and rejuvenate even the most tired-looking skin. This includes:

  • Thickening the epidermal and basal layer
  • Increased absorption and metabolism of nutrients and antioxidants
  • Stimulates immune cells to the treatment area to remove damaged cells and debris
  • Reduces enlarged pores
  • Trans-epidermal delivery of antioxidants can reduce oxidative stress caused by UV exposure
  • Exfoliation of the damaged keratinocytes via increased cellular turnover and epithelization

CIT’s oscillating needles also work to mechanically break down old collagen and elastin in the skin, making way for brand new strands to be rebuilt. Being that CIT has a mechanical action on the skin, treatment will require a day or two of downtime, however, believe it or not, is still a minimally invasive treatment, as these micro-channels only take a few hours to close and do not ablate or remove tissue.

Treatments can be performed anywhere on the face and body, and are to be performed at 4-week intervals. While many people see great results after their first treatment, we generally recommend 3-6 treatments to help your clients achieve their best results.
